Entry-level platform for training missions
Outstanding payload resources and capability
A customisable platform built on strong heritage foundations
We have over 30 years of expertise in delivering small satellite operational missions in short timeframes and on budget for a range of space applications. We have a pragmatic and professional approach and we pride ourselves on working closely with our customers to achieve mission success.
Continuing the innovative approach of our CARBONITE satellite programme, we offer a low cost video platform, enhanced and designed for fast manufacture in high volumes.
Our CARBONITE satellites offer high resolution 1m GSD imagery from 500km orbit.
The agile platform allows for 45 degree off pointing manoeuvres and is compatible with multiple low cost launchers.
We have more than 30 years of expertise and a worldwide reputation for delivering low cost, small satellite optical Earth observation missions. Our latest mission designs combine our flight-proven avionics and platforms with a range of high performance imagers, video cameras and telescopes.
SSTL offers low cost Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) missions that can overcome the drawbacks of optical imaging satellites with the ability to image through clouds or at night.
Our low cost SAR missions are built on our flight-proven core platforms and avionics.

The Telecoms market is evolving rapidly with a drop in demand from commercial satellite operators for traditional large Geostationary satellites, coupled with the emergence of large LEO Communication constellations and the ever increasing expansion of terrestrial broadband networks architectures to state-of-the-art software defined solutions.
To address this evolving market we offer a small a highly capable small GEO satellite that is designed to accommodate multiple payload configurations from bent pipe architectures to state of the art software defined solutions
With low cost small satellite platforms, flight-proven avionics, and a rapid order-to-orbit time, we can provide our customers with a technology demonstration mission that will rapidly reduce costs and risks for an operational programme, or validate key technologies in the orbital environment.
We have a proven track record of successful technology demonstration and pathfinder missions:
We provide world-class space mission training opportunities, from academic training to complete satellite design and construction. Our expertise is at the heart of our collaborative training programmes which are designed to achieve technical independence for our customers and we have a proven track-record of providing in-country capability building, support and training at our customers' own facilities.
Using satellites as the foundation of an industrial development programme has consistently proven to bring sustainable economic expansion through space-based activities.
SSTL developed and delivered the first operational payload for Europe's satellite-supported navigation programme as part of its GIOVE-A mission launched in 2005.
Since then SSTL has supplied 22 navigation payloads for the deployment phase of Europe's satellite-supported navigation system, Galileo, and is now manufacturing a further 12 payloads that will form the heart of the navigation system. SSTL’s payload solution is based on European sourced atomic clocks, signal generators, high power TWTAs and Antennas.
Our GNSS receivers are highly regarded for quality and robustness and are flying on many missions, including TechDemoSat-1 and NASA's CYGNSS constellation.
We pioneered the commercial small satellite industry and established a market in low earth orbit; now we’re going to do the same beyond Earth's orbit.
We are developing the infrastructure that will enable organisations to achieve their exploration ambitions: transportation, communication, navigation; mission tasking, data capture and data return.
We welcome opportunities for collaboration, co-development and cooperation, to leverage international capabilities and expertise to develop cost-effective, high-value missions, services and applications.
We provide complete Turnkey Ground Segment solutions for our range of Space Platforms, including all the hardware and software necessary to operate, maintain, process and archive data from our platforms.
We have our own Satellite Operations Centre located at our headquarters in Guildford. We have accumulated over 200 years of in-orbit satellite operations through our automated Satellite Operations Centre, monitoring satellites 24 hours a day.
Our Satellite Operations Centre has access to SSTL Ground Stations located in the UK and Svalbard. In addition to these, SSTL is part of the Viasat Real Time Earth (RTE) network, hosting one of the RTE ground stations at our Guildford site.
We offer a range of managed in-orbit spacecratt operations services for our customers.
We offer both emergency and non-emergency support for our customer's Space and Ground Segments throughout their mission, depending on their requirements.
We have decades of experience when it comes to launching small satellites: we have worked on more than thirty launch campaigns on a host of different launch vehicles.
Today we work with all the leading launch service providers worldwide to ensure that our customers enjoy the widest possible range of attractive launch options. We can support our customers’ launch procurement process, the launch interface design, export of the spacecraft and associated licensing, shipping, launcher fit-checks as well as the launch campaign itself.
